2017 Year in Review

Thanks for helping us make 2017 a great year at Tara Wildlife. We couldn’t do it without you! We are taking a look back at 2017 and everything that was going on at Tara as well as giving you a sneak peek into some special events happening in 2018.

Additions to the Field Course

Station in the Field Course

Tara’s Field Course was a big hit with corporate clients in 2017. It is comprised of  throwing knives, spears, tomahawks, shooting marbles with a sling shot, along with .22 rifle and skeet. We’ll add two more activities in 2018: archery and horse shoes. We encourage our visiting clients to plan arrivals two hours early for their planned meetings as the field course is a great ice breaker for arriving attendees, and can help get your meeting off to a productive start.

The New Advanced Summer Camp

We added an “Advanced Camp” to our line up for summer camps last year and the feedback from our 2017 attendees is very positive! The Advanced Camp is designed for children just a bit older or those children that have attended Tara’s Summer Camps in the past. Ages for the camp are 12 – 17. We will also expand the camp by an additional day this upcoming year. Dates are July 22nd – July 26. The Advanced Camp places an increased emphasis on shooting skills and general knowledge of the great outdoors.

Youth Camps

Our Spring and Summer Camps were busy in 2017. Close to 30 campers attended the Spring Break Camp and over 300 campers arrived for summer camp fun in June and July. This year, we are in discussions for a Summer Camp Week comprised on “Home Schooled”  children. More details to follow.

Fishing Memberships

Tara/Halpino Fishing Memberships available. Call for details.

2017-2018 Hunting Season

The 2017  – 2018 archery season has been very busy and productive to date. (Tara ends its season Saturday January 13th). Overall deer conditions have improved after the extensive flooding issues caused throughout the 2016 spring and summer months.

Turkey Population

The turkey population at Tara continues to be negatively affected by the high levels of the Mississippi River in spring and early summer, which is during the turkey’s nesting season. There are no plans to offer spring turkey hunts in 2018.

Meetings and Special Events

The spring months continue to be an excellent time for Corporate and Social retreats, workshops and family reunions. Nearly 40 groups chose Tara for their gathering site in 2017.

Also Tara is a wonderful venue for Wedding Ceremonies of which 3 occurred in 2017 at Tara.

Cabin rentals at Tara’s three cabin type facilities continue to be popular for families seeking a get-a-way for fun and relaxation.

Construction in 2017

New screened-in gazebo

New screened-in gazebo

In late Spring of 2017, Tara completed a new Gazebo, screened and lighted for visiting attendees. It’s located adjacent to Tara’s Lodging wing and is a great place to relax outdoors in a “Bug Free” environment.

Additionally, throughout the months of August and September, Tara completed a total remodel of the Lodge’s main kitchen. It’s new design allows kitchen staff to expedite food preparation and other duties within more modern setting.
